Cold-message scripts and a footage guide — how to put your highlights in front of the right people.
What every outreach message needs
Every message to a club or scout needs: your name and age, your position, one specific strength or metric, a link to your highlights, and a clear call to action. Keep it under 150 words. Be professional — no emojis or slang. Address it to a real person, not just "the academy". Ask the Scout Agent to draft one for you.
How to find the right person to contact
Don't send to a generic inbox. Look for the Academy Director, Head of Recruitment, or Under-15s/Under-17s coach by name. Check the club's official website, LinkedIn, or Twitter. A personalised message to the right person gets 5× more responses than a generic one to "the team".
Follow up — once
If you hear nothing after 10–14 days, send one short follow-up. Something like: "Hi [name], just following up on my message from [date]. I'm still very keen and happy to provide any additional information or footage." Never follow up more than once. Stay professional.

Shoot in landscape, phone stable
Always film horizontally. Use a tripod or boot bag. Shaky vertical footage looks amateur to scouts. Position the camera at shin-to-waist height from the side — never behind you.

Capture 3 types of clips
Technical close-ups (dribbling, first touch, finishing), full-speed match clips showing decision-making, and at least one weak foot clip. Scouts want to see athleticism, technique, and intelligence.

Keep the reel under 3 minutes
Your best 90 seconds beats a 5-minute reel every time. Lead with your two strongest clips. No slow-motion unless it shows something exceptional. No music that drowns out ball sounds.

Add a simple title card
Use CapCut or iMovie. First frame: name, age, position, season. Last frame: contact details. White text on dark background. This takes 10 minutes and immediately looks professional.

Upload to YouTube (unlisted) and share the link
Never send raw video files — they get blocked. Upload to YouTube as unlisted. Paste the link in your message. This is how scouts actually want to receive footage.
